I took Ted’s Just Write it Class from fourth grade all the way through high school, and it’s hard to put into words how much it meant to me. I became a writer in Ted’s class. I made lifelong friends. I let my imagination run wild and had the most fun a kid could have. I was challenged. For an eleven-year-old who loved telling stories, it was heaven. In middle and high school, class was where I could let my guard down, be creative, and be myself. Along the way, I filled so many notebooks, and also learned how to give and take constructive feedback, a skill I’d need in college and grad school and, now, a skill I need every day as a writer out in the world. If you’d told me as a fourth grader that writing would be my full-time job one day, I wouldn’t have believed you. Or maybe I would’ve, because Ted always taught us to follow our dreams. That’s just one of the reasons he’s the best teacher I’ve ever had!
