Saving Santa's Seals
About three years ago, my little nephew Ryder said to me, “Uncle Ted, you write big kids’ books so why can’t you write a book for little kids like me?”
Being the good uncle I try to be, I agreed to write him his very own story. I took a bedtime story I had been telling him and with his feedback worked it into something bigger. And boy, did it get bigger! I decided there was too much story for it to be the typical thirty-two page picture book. No, it became an adventure story with twelve chapters and even an epilogue.
Ryder and I knew it should also have really cool illustrations to excite the early readers. One of the first people I thought of was an illustrator, animator, actor, and friend named Adam Taylor of Taylor Entertainment. I had wanted to work with Adam ever since I saw his portfolio several years back.
I knew he would put an original twist to my story so with the help of his father, Rob Taylor, President of Taylor Entertainment, we all teamed up. It was a wonderful collaboration between people who respected each others’ talents and who all possessed one important quality to put out the best story possible for all ages to enjoy. From both reading and showing some of the illustrations to local school kids I really think we accomplished our goal. But then came the hardest part in the process. We had to find the perfect publisher, a publisher who would understand the true meaning behind the story, believe in it, and publish it.
We were lucky to find one in our own backyard! Cape Cod publisher, Leapfrog Press will be publishing Saving Santa’s Seals in October of 2009.
It is not too early to begin scheduling book signings and speaking engagements. So if you are a bookstore, school, library, etc. and you want me to come for a visit and talk about Saving Santa’s Seals you can contact me by clicking here.
